Electricity Planning in Peterborough to Kingston

Over the next number of months, the IESO will be seeking input from the communities in the Peterborough to Kingston area to inform the development of an electricity plan to meet the long-terms needs of the communities and businesses within this region. As a first stage in this planning process, your input is needed to understand your energy priorities and needs over the next 20 years.

All input is welcomed and will be shared and responded to.

How will your input be used?

Electricity planning in the Peterborough to Kingston area will result in a long-term electricity plan called an Integrated Regional Resource Plan (IRRP). The IESO will work with interested parties to examine future needs and any actions required to ensure that an adequate and reliable supply of electricity is provided to the communities in this region.

An ongoing dialogue is needed throughout the development of this IRRP and will be invited in the following two stages:

Stage 1: Determining future electricity needs (Q3 2020 – Q1 2021)

Input to determine how much electricity is needed in the long-term to support local growth, business development and other projects

Based on your input, the IESO (along with its partners including local distribution companies and electricity transmitters) will conduct technical studies to:

  • Assess the magnitude, location and timing of the electricity needs to be addressed, and
  • Examine potential options to evaluate feasibility, cost, community preferences and other considerations
Stage 2: Finalize IRRP (Q1 2021 – Q4 2021)

Your feedback will invited on:

  • The proposed solutions needed to meet the long-term electricity needs of this area to ensure that all major issues are addressed

  • The implementation and next steps to help us identify any further conversations and actions that may needed in the near term

Your insights and input are important to help shape your community’s electricity future.
